Christmas Tree Festival 2002
Skegness Methodist Church came up
with another first for the town!
On the 6th, 7th and 8th of December they
held a Christmas Tree Festival to coincide
with their annual Christmas Bazaar.
Some 30 trees were on display in the church, each tree having been sponsored by a different local charity or individual and decorated to a theme of the sponsors choice. The whole festival was open to the public and visitors were asked to vote for their favourite tree. The sponsors of the most popular tree, a local florist,
received a prize!
The Town Mayor, Councillor Gary Ellis, sponsored
one of the Christmas Trees on behalf of the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Home here in Skegness.
Gary opened the Festival on Friday 6th December during an opening celebration.
During the Festival there were various stalls in the
church's Community Hall together with refreshments
and the opportunity to visit Father Christmas in his grotto.
The whole event was really something special by
way of an introduction to the festive season and
attracted over 300 visitors as well as raising money
for the church funds.
