Skegness Jolly Fisherman attends Family Service
The congregation at Skegness
Methodist Church on Sunday
March 16, were invited to imagine
that they were the audience for a
television quiz show as members of
the church performed a sketch
entitled "the Chance of a Lifetime".
The minister, the Rev Ian Banks,
used the sketch to illustrate how
Jesus calls people to follow him and
become disciples. The rewards of
doing so he compared with winning
the jackpot prize in a game show.
The reading from the Bible
described how Jesus called two
fishermen and declared that if they
followed him they would become
"fishers of men". To drive home the point, the "contestant" in the quiz sketch was none other than Skegness' own "Jolly Fisherman", alias Roy Coley.
The faces of the children present shone with delight as "Jolly" appeared among the congregation.
During the service, the minister Baptised two young people, Natasha Liane Champion (aged 6) and
Alexander Ethan Sykes (aged 6 months). The church also welcomed three new adult members, Julie and John Fortnam and George Dawson, bringing to 41 the total number of new people received into membership over the past 30 months
